So the questions there in lies, “Can we have fellowship with God?” Let us look.
Old Testament
Can
we have fellowship with God? Yes, 1 John 1:3 says we do. Not just with the
Father but also with Christ. Let’s look at that fellowship with God.
Enoch walked with God (Gen 5:22). Noah
walked with God (Gen. 6:9). God dwelled among the children of Israel (Ex.
29:45). God said that His presence would go with Moses (Ex. 33:14). God
told His people He would walk among them and they shall be His people (Lev.
26:12). God will dwell with those that are of a contrite and humble
spirit and those are the ones He will revive (Isa. 57:15). God said again
He would dwell in the midst of His people (Zech. 2:10). When we look at 1 John
2:6 we see that if we say we abide in Christ then we ought to walk just as He
walked. God walking, dwelling with, and His presence being with His people is
dependent on them being obedient to him. What does the New Testament say about
having fellowship with God?
New Testaments
Jesus
said that if you don’t receive the children in His name that you would not
receive God, who sent Him (Mk. 9:37). Jesus said that if you keep His
commands the Father will love you, come to you, and make His home in you (John
14:23). Jesus prays that we may be one in the Father and Himself in us in
John 17:21. Paul reminds us that we are the temple of God. That He will dwell
in us and walk in us. That He will be our God and we will be His people (2 Cor.
6:16). Paul tells them in Corinth to be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one
mind and live in peace. If we do that then the God of love and peace shall be
with us (2 Cor. 13:11). 1 John 3:24 tells us that those that keep His
commandments dwell in Him and He in them. Then Revelation sums it up in the
end. John says that God will be with men for the former things are passed away
(Rev. 21:3). This fellowship is so much stronger than anything else we
could have. The word “fellowship” signifies a much deeper meaning. The New
Testament makes this clear.
Conclusion
John
is speaking of Heaven in Rev. 21:3. So inherently, this would mean God is with
those who were found to be His at judgment (Matt. 25:31-46). Based on
this overwhelming evidence, we can see that we can have fellowship with God. As
we continue holding up our part, being obedient children of God, God will have
fellowship with us. We must be faithful partners. How amazing is it that we
have a partnership, with a mutual aim, with God?!
Do you have the same goals as God?
Do you have fellowship with Him?
Do you seek to up hold your end of
the partnership with God?
