Things That Should Occupy Our Mind

     When we are immersed into Christ our mind set is the most valuable asset we have. It can guide us into a successful Christian walk or quickly lead us astray. Our mind should be on the things that matter most. What are some of those things? We will get to that in the weeks to come. Today we must first ask ourselves what was the mind of Christ?

      Christ had one purpose to bring salvation to all mankind. He did this by delivering God’s grace and truth to us. (John 1:17) God so loved the world that He sent His only Son. (John 3:16) This was not by accident. This was not a last-minute attempt to save man out of desperation. It was planned and executed exactly as God planed it and predestined it. (Eph. 1:9-11) When the Word became flesh and dwelt among us He had only this purpose before Him. (John 1:14) The thing is that He was still man. He experienced everything we do. (Heb. 4:15) He also learned obedience the same way we do. (Heb. 5:8-9) What occupied His mind so extensively that He could accomplish God’s will without sin or failure?

     He lived and breathed the will of God, His father. (John 6:38) He was about restoring God’s creation back to Him. (Luke 19:20) For God’s will and desire is that all men come to the knowledge of truth and are saved. (1 Tim. 2:4; John 3:16) Christ lived three hard years on this earth for this mission. He did not do anything else. We can make a strong assumption that He spent 30 years training for what was to come. (Luke 2:42,46-47, 49-50, 52; Luke 4:16-20) There is not a finite place in my mind that tells me Christ was not fixated on what God’s will was and what He must do to accomplish it.

     For three years Jesus, did nothing but feast on the will of God. We know that it was His food. (John 4:34) We know that He also was nourished by the word of God. (Matt. 4:4) Jesus Christ’s drink came from the promise of God for everlasting life. (John 4:13-14) We know His rest and rejuvenation was in prayer. (Luke 5:16; Mark 14:32-40) Jesus spent all day teaching God’s commands to all who would lend an ear. (Luke 22:37-38) Christ understood that what he was teaching meant eternal life for all whom believed. (John 12:48-50) This was His daily schedule. He only ate and slept when He had the opportunity. (Luke 8:22-23; Matt. 12:1; Luke 10:38-42) Jesus’ life was spent living and breathing the will of God. There was not a day or a moment that went by where His mind was not occupied with the will of God.

     His mind set was that being in the form of God He would lower Himself to the lowest possible place and then die for the purpose of saving our souls. (Phil. 2:5-11) He did this because this was the will of God. Jesus did not hesitate to do what God asked Him. He lived for it. He died for it. He rose for it. So, will you and I if we live the way He did. Although we must walk as he walked, if we say we abide in Him, we cannot accomplish it without His mind set. For His walk was driven by the mind set of accomplishing God’s will. Do you have this same mind set? Are you striving to be encapsulated by the will of God? Is your sole purpose for living to accomplish the will of God and please God? Is your mind engulfed by the will of God?

Faith

         Faith is something that we often have issues with for one simple reason; it’s invisible. The word itself does not mean a tangible object that the five senses can detect. However, it is made up of the hope of eternal life and the evidence of God and His work. 1 I truly think this is the crux of the matter on faith. To many souls believe faith is something else. It is treated like a mythical creature that can only be witnessed by a few. It is presented like a lore that has no real root and no true evidence. It is handled flippantly. The Unselfish Heart and Liberal Hands

“Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.” Acts 2:44-45 There was an old woman who lived in a home by herself.   She was able and in her right mind.   She would wake up every morning and pray.   She always prayed for everyone, even her grocery list.   She knew everything she had was a blessing from God.   The kicker here is she lived next to a faithless man. He would wake up every morning and hear this old lady pray. After some time he grew indignant with her mindless praying so he said “I’m going to get her good.”   Knowing she always prayed for her groceries he woke up early one morning and jotted her list down as she prayed.
